Last updated April 2026. This is a plain-English summary.

What we collect

Only what's needed to make PawAWhere work for you and a finder:

  • Your account: the email you sign in with, optional name, optional mobile for SMS notifications.
  • Pet profiles: whatever you choose to enter — name, photos, diet, meds, quirks, vet, notes.
  • Scan events: when a finder submits the form, we store their name (if given), phone, message, and optional location so we can deliver it to you and show you the scan history.
  • Finder IP addresses: stored as a SHA-256 hash with a salt that rotates weekly. We can't recover the original IP from the hash. We use it only to rate-limit spam against your tag.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data.
  • We don't show the owner's phone, email, or address to finders — only the pet info you've chosen to share.
  • We don't require a finder to have an account, an app, or even to tell us who they are.
  • We don't track you across the web.

Sub-processors

  • Google — OAuth sign-in (only if you pick that option).
  • ClickSend — sends SMS and email notifications to you when a tag is scanned, and magic-link emails when you sign in by email.
  • Cloudflare — CDN, DNS, DDoS protection.
  • Stripe — payments (when we turn it on).

Deleting your data

You can delete a pet, a tag, or your entire account from your dashboard at any time. Pets you archive are hard-deleted after 30 days. Scan events are retained for one year and then purged automatically.
